Catherine and I are back at the Round Barn Farm in Red Wing, MN, for a few days. Red Wing is north of Lake Pepin, the largest and only natural lake on the Mississippi River. We took a paddle wheel boat ride on Lake Pepin to see the sights. Not quite as exciting as some of our European river boat trips, but we did see Lake City, Minnesota, the home of water skiing and Pepin, Wisconsin, the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder. This tugboat was pushing nine empty grain barges to a location in preparation for the grain harvest.
We have a full house (ten guests), tonight. Six guests have checked in as I write this and, as usual, they are delightful people. We are serving a broccoli and cheese crustless quiche, tomorrow. Trust me, even the die-hard broccoli haters like this dish. One couple is celebrating their third wedding anniversary, tomorrow. We will put birthday candles on their desert and announce it to the other guests. It’s a nice little touch for everyone.
