Catherine and I were very pleased to be asked by the owners of the Stone Terrace by the Lake Bed and Breakfast in Evanston, Illinois, to inn sit for them so they could visit their daughter in New York City. To give you an idea of the place, it is located within sight of Lake Michigan, on the edge of the campus of Northwestern University.
The day we arrived, they were hosting the annual meeting of the Evanston Garden Club. I took photos as they set up for the event. The silver tea service and the Spode China tea cup were out, as were some of the refreshments. The finger sandwiches, salad bowl and they wine were yet to be set out. The breakfast area was set up for twelve of the 75 ladies expected for the meeting. The other members settled for the conversation areas in the living room. Billed as a “Tea”, the ladies drank one pot of tea and a case of wine. I chuckled as I thought about it, but truth be told, the case of wine amounted to about a glass of wine per guest.
