A wedding at The Oakwood Inn

Catherine and I had a wedding on our third day while inn sitting at The Oakwood Inn in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Luckily, the couple chose the inn owners Bill and Bridget Johnson’s “Elopement Package” for their wedding. The wedding party consisted of the bride and groom, a best man and maid of honor. Everything was taken care of for both the wedding party and for us including a “wedding officiant” and two photographers who took video tape and still shots before, during and after the ceremony. All we did was set up the Den for a post-ceremony sparkling wine toast and cake cutting. (The cake, sparkling wine and flowers were all delivered to the inn.)

The wedding was planned for the gazebo on the property at 6:00 PM, with the bride walking down a long path from the inn to the gazebo. It rained the day before and the day of the wedding. Not just a light sprinkle, but a continuous down pour. We had three and a half inches of rain! We were looking at alternate locations for the wedding in the inn, then about 5:45 PM, the rain stopped. They had their gazebo wedding, walked back to the Den in the inn and the rain started again.
